How Does WorldGymRank Work?
Tier One:      Olympic Games, World Gymnastics Championships

Tier Two:     Competitions with at least 32 athletes and/or 8 countries

Tier Three:   Competitions with at least 16 athletes and/or 4 countries

Tier Four:     Competitions with less than 16 athletes and/or 4 countries
On this page, you will find how WorldGymRank tabulates its world ranking system, based on international competitions. They are broken down into two categories, the first being the tier of competition, and the second being how many points each rank is worth in that particular competition. Please see the notes at the bottom of the page for further details about the Competition Tiers and Points System.
Competition Tiers
01. Olympic Points are awarded in full during the Olympic year. They carry over to the next year, but they depreciate in value by 25% every year until the next Olympic Games. For example, if you won 100 points at the 2000 Olympic Games, in 2001 you would start the year with 75 points. In 2002 you would start the year with 50 points, in 2003 you would start the year with 25 points, and in 2004, the next Olympic year, you would be at zero points again.
04. National competitions from any country, in any form, are not factored into WorldGymRank world rankings, as they are not deemed international competitions.  NCAA gymnasts are not eligible for a world ranking unless the results are from a WorldGymRank certified competition, i.e. international competition in which the FIG Code of Points is used.

02. World Gymnastics Championships points carry over, and they are worth 100% the year in which they are held, as well as the following year until the new World Championships are held.  Points will also be awarded for the three stages of competition during Individual Apparatus World Championships.
03. In addition, Tier One competitions are the only competitions where team points are awarded to individual athletes. No other team rankings are recognized in Tiers Two, Three, or Four.
05. Junior International Gymnastics Competitions will be awarded points one tier below the competition criteria. For example, if the competition in question meets the standards of a Tier Two competition, it will then be ranked according to the Tier Three points system. This is done to reflect the age-limit restrictions imposed by the FIG.
Any further questions regarding the criteria on this page can be directed to Matt Esler via email at: mattesler@worldgymrank.com
06. World Team Rankings are determined by adding together the points of the top six gymnasts per country. A final total is tabulated at the end of each year, with brief updates throughout the year to mark the progress of each country. Rankings are available for Men's Teams, Women's Teams, and Combined Teams (both men and women).
07. Tier levels assigned to various competitions may differ slightly from the table at the top of the page. This is done only if the compeittion level is particularily weak at said competition.
